Today, we are excited to announce that Jonathan Mason is joining TMA as Agency Counsel. He will be based in TMA’s Dallas office, reporting to CFO Brenda Massey.
Jonathan was previously with The Coca-Cola Company in Atlanta, where he served as primary legal support for Coke’s in-house production studio and marketing agency in his role as Marketing Counsel. He also advised business units handling multicultural marketing, motorsports, gaming, soccer, and golf marketing efforts. The many activations he supported there included a Stranger Things (Netflix) partnership, motorsports sponsorships, and Super Bowl talent agreements.
At TMA, he will have responsibility for a wide range of contracts with clients, talent, IP holders, employees, and vendors.
“I have always tried to direct my legal career toward creative clients and environments,” says Jonathan. “TMA’s mantra ‘Creativity that Matters’ represents a shared mindset with the company. The high-profile, exciting work and the company’s emphasis on its people also make it the perfect setting for me to apply my legal skills to help people produce creativity that matters. It doesn’t get any better than that.”
Prior to Coca-Cola, Jonathan was chief legal and creative officer for EnrichHER, a funding platform supporting women-led businesses. He spent over a decade with the law firm of Womble Carlyle Sandridge & Rice, where he worked on a number of high-profile matters including the O.J. Simpson trial, chaired the summer associate program in Atlanta, and served as chief diversity officer. He has had his own law practice, and taught Entertainment Law at Atlanta’s John Marshall Law School. Jonathan is a graduate of Howard University and Georgetown University Law Center.
“Jonathan impressed us in every way,” says Brenda. “He not only has deep subject-matter expertise for our work in sports, talent, media and entertainment; he is also a versatile and thoughtful leader who takes the initiative to make his organizations smarter, stronger, and safer.”
Jonathan is an avid photographer who take pictures of anything and everything. Remember to be camera-ready whenever he’s around! He’s a city dweller whose morning routine consists of winding through the streets of Atlanta for five to six miles, while listening to music or one of his favorite podcasts. He is in the midst of moving to Dallas (home of a rival football team) and looking forward to exploring new adventures in his new home.
